If the mod itself needs an update, make sure to leave a comment about it on its download page. Enable mods afterward, as EA Games updates disable them.
Right-click the game and select “Check for update.”. Find Sims 4 among your installed games. To update your game, follow the steps below: If the mod is made for an older or newer version of Sims 4, it won’t appear in the game. You can usually find mod compatibility and game version requirements there.

Sometimes the problem lies in incompatibility. This is necessary for the changes to take place.
Click “Other,” then “Enable Custom Content and Mods.”. If your downloaded trait mods don’t show up in Sims 4, ensure that mods are enabled altogether. Technically, trait mods in Sims 4 aren’t much different from any other type of mods. Right-click the game and select “Check for update.” If any updates are available, they will install automatically. If you haven’t updated Sims 4 for a while, it could have stopped supporting mods. Make sure the downloaded mod version corresponds with your current game version and that you’ve made the necessary game updates. This can usually be done on the mod’s download page. 
If the steps above don’t alleviate the issue, you may need to check the mod compatibility. The folder will unzip automatically in the same main folder.
If they’re in a compressed folder, double-click it. ItsaprilXD’s fabulous guide to installing CC/Mods on a Mac is also worth a read. Have you tried repairing your game? Right click on the game in your Origin games library and select repair game. Do you have iCloud Drive enabled to store your Documents folder in the cloud? If your Mac internal storage is getting full and Optimise Mac Storage is enabled, it will automatically push files to the cloud. Have you unzipped the downloaded CC/Mods so you are only placing. Are the CC/Mods definitely for Sims 4 and not Sims 1, 2 or 3?. Check the SimsVIP broken Mods page for updated lists after each patch. The good creators will always check their content is compatible after an update and release an updated version if necessary or possible. Are the CC and Mods you’re trying to use fully compatible with the latest version of the game? Check on the creator’s website that they are. Are CC and Mods enabled in your game options? If not enable them and restart the game. 
When macOS updates are applied this can sometimes change iCloud Drive settings if dialogue windows ask the user to confirm new actions so check the location of your Documents folder in System Preferences. Game updates can render CC/Mods incompatible so you need to check with the creator that the content you use has been updated to work with the current patch level of the game. Sometimes there are spikes in this issue being reported and it usually coincides with a game update or macOS update.
